Lots of news since the last update.  We held the club competition on 6th November, and had the best turnout for a long time from our members.  It was brilliant to see so many of you coming for the first time, and entering the beginners and novice classes. Many thanks to our Judge Steve Hirst, and to Hilary Hirst for stewarding.  Steve set some interesting challenges in his courses, particularly for those in class 4 and it was interesting to see how our members tackled them.  Photos from Trish Holdsworth are on this link.

The week after the club completion, three of our members went down to try out for the Scottish Interregional team for Crufts 2012.  Congratulations to Nicola and Storm who will be in Class A, Judith and Tig  who are Novice Reserve, but commiserations to Eleanor who missed out.

Many thank to all those who helped at the show.  The weather wasn’t particularly kind to us but we think everyone enjoyed themselves.  We even had a heartwarming moment when a missing dog  was reunited with his mum after being lost in the park for 3 days.

Laura Innes has asked us to tell you that the John the chiropractor will be visiting Aberdeen on 5th October.  Anyone wanting an appointment should contact Laura on 07933656293 or email devana_dogs@tiscali.co.uk

Congratulations to Martin Clayton and Jamie for wining Beginners at Lochaber and Govan shows.  Well deserved wins as you’ve been knocking on the door for a while now.

We’ve had lots of agility and jumping wins at the local Beardie and Granite City Shows.  Notably Judith Owen and Tig who won the combined 1-7 class at Beardie Show making them Grade 5.  The team then had three other wins, and a third place at Granite City.  Helen Strachan and Katie, and Nicola Ward with Storm and Sky were also in winner’s enclosure.  Trish Holdsworth and Zoe also did well with several placings over the weekends.

We had a very successful obedience show this year, with beautiful weather.  Thanks to all our club members and supporters who made it possible.

Alistair Baillie has dropped us  a line to say  that he won the Medium Olympia qualifier at the Avon DAC show with Molly, which takes them  through to the Semi-Final at Stoneleigh in September.

After being in charge of our youngest members for some time,  Shona Webster has decided to have a break from training.  The committee would like to thank Shona for her work over the last couple of years, and hope to see her back in the (not too distant) future.   Those of you who were attending Shona’s 8 pm class should now  go to Alison’s 6.30 pm class on Wednesday 15th June, and those who have just finished the puppy course should go at 8.30 pm if you wish to carry on.

Judith Owen and Tig have been busy winning at agility again taking them to Grade 4.  Nicola Ward and Miss Sky won a grade 6 class.

We had our AGM on 18th April and have had a few changes to the committee.  We welcome Shannon on to the committee.  Lesley stepped down as club secretary but has remained on the committee.  Helen rejoins the committee, taking on the role of membership secretary, whilst Gail has taken on the role of club secretary.

Congratulations to Eleanor Harrison for wining Grade 4 Agility at Dundee and her placing in Beginners at Leven, to Judith Owen for winning Novice part 2 at Leven, and her placings at Dundee and Kingdom of Fife agility shows.  Martin Clayton was also placed in Beginners at the Strathkelvin show.

The ACTS medium agility team came second in the final at Crufts,  after winning their semi final.  Well done to all taking part.  Denise Clayton with Charlie and Laura Innes with Kaydn are taking part in the Scottish team for the World Open Agility championships being held in May, and one of our medium team members, Gary Cumming, is taking part for the English team.    Well done to them all for qualifying.

As you know, the middle of our club year was hampered considerably by the weather, which caused the cancellation of our Christmas party and classes for part of November and December.

However,  the weather has taken it’s toll on our hall, with a burst pipe bringing down the ceiling in the kitchen / toilet area.  The main problem has been that the electrics have been affected and the College, who rent the hall to us,  have deemed it unsafe at present.  The main hall itself hasn’t been affected.  The good news is that repairs are being carried out, but as yet we have been given no date for their completion.

We’re very grateful to Mr McConnachie of 27th Scouts for allowing us the use of the Rosehill Scout Hall for two evenings a week at very short notice, and classes / courses will be continuing there as detailed on the front page.  Hopefully the class schedule is a wee bit clearer now.

We will keep you posted via the website of what’s happening as things progress.

Club News for 2010

Very late news to be added to the page:  Scamp won his second championship class at Dundee  - only one more to go now so still keeping those fingers crossed.  Also on the agility front,  ACTS medium team qualified at Easington for Crufts 2011.

Well done to all those who were placed at our own show in September, in particular Helen and Katie on their win

Thank you to all those who helped at the Granite City Show,  and well done to our members who were placed.

More agility news, little Charlie  our wee flyballing jack Russell, has made Grade 7 – well done to mum Denise Clayton.  Good luck in the champ classes.

The obedience show is now past for another year, and our club members did well in getting placed.  Special mention goes to Shannon Flynn for winning Beginners with Gidget on Saturday – only her second UK show!

On the agility front,  Helen Strachan  and Katie have won 2 Grade 5 jumping classes, one at Tweedbank and one at the Beardie show.

He’s not the forward type, but our little spaniel Scamp and his dad Kevin MacIntosh  have every reason to be proud – Scamp won the Medium championship class at the East Lothian Show.  Fingers crossed for the other two wins Kevin!

May continues to be a good month for club members.  Martin Clayton and Jamie (Jamie Marise of Vynor) won Pre-Beginners and came 2nd in the Beginners Class! Misty Harrison, one of the smallest dogs, got a well done in the Judge’s report for a full recall.

Our flyball teams made their first outing of the season to the Granite City fun day, held at their training ground at Kingswells.  Both teams held their own with the Beginners team coming third in their Division, and the “big” team coming second, loosing only on time, in their division.  Little Charlie the Jack Russell was awarded the prize for the dog who looked most unlikely to be able to do flyball.  He may be small but he has lots of determination!  Use this link to view photos of the day and spot our teams http://pets.webshots.com/album/577691658ETIJDJ?vhost=pets – by kind permission of Jim Webster

Hot off the press news for May  - Storm has made it to grade 6 with a win at Fair City agility show.  Mum Nicola will be pleased to have both him and Sky in the same class.

Running a bit behind with the rest of April’s news.  Alison and Cody came third in the Novice class at Knightswood show on 18th April.

Very behind with March’s news.  At the annual Speyvalley Match, Martin was placed with Digger and won Class 4 with Jamie.

Congratulations to Lisa Traverse for winning Pre-beginners at Leven Obedience show on 17th April with her handsome young collie Max (Whitemoss Conamara).

At the first obedience show of the year,  two of our newer members were placed in the line up.  Shannon Flynn won Beginners with Gedgit (Dazzling Gold Leap of Faith) and Martin Clayton came 4th with Jamie (Jamie Marise of Vynor).  This was Martin’s first obedience competition and Shannon’s first entry to a show in the UK.    Well done to to Jenny Wood of Speyvalley for her 2nd place in the same class with Brint.

The club competition was held on Sun 7th March-big thanks to Colin Thain for judging and Lesley Walker for stewarding. The results are on the following link  -photographs to be added soon.

Club News for 2009

November seems to be a good month so far – Eleanor and Misty qualified for the final of the Pre-beginners stakes to be held at Crufts in March – well done both!

Nicola and Storm had a second Grade 5 jumping win at the Broxburn show.  One more Storm and you’ll have caught up with Sky

Congratulations to Eleanor Harrison who won Pre-Beginners at the Weimaraner show in Alvah on 4th October.  It was with Misty, so it’s good practice for the PreBeginners Stakes semi final being held at the same venue in a couple of weeks time.

Now that the dust has settled from the agility show,  we can report that our own club members did rather well this year.  As well as being Show Secretary with all the running around that that entails, Nicola Ward managed to move Sky up to Grade 6 by wining both a jumping and an agility class.  Jan Guyan won a Grade 6 jumping  class with Bobby.   Keeping up appearances for the mediums,  Ged Smith won grade 1-4 with Cody, and had other placings with both Sky and Cody.  Mentions also to Trish Holdsworth with Zoe,  Eleanor Harrison with Dusty, Kevin Macintosh with Scamp and Guinness who were usually in the places,  even when Dad wasn’t running them, and last but not least Judith Owen with the inimitable Pete.  Everyone who came to the show seemed to enjoy themselves, and Seaton Park continues to be a popular venue.  (Guess where we’ve booked for next year?)

The local show season continued last weekend with the rather wet Granite City show at Hazlehead Park.  Once again club members did exceptionally well, especially our smaller members.

Eleanor Harrison and little lowchen Dusty won Small Agility Grade 3 on Sunday, amongst many other rosettes, big sister Misty got placed too in the medium classes.  However, starring in the medium Grade 1 classes were the poodles Sky and Cody with a total of 3 first places (two jumping for Cody, one agility for Sky)   and gaining Cody the trophy for the Best Small/Medium Granite City Dog at the show for Ged Smith.  We don’t have the exact details  but we heard that Guiness McIntosh has joined brother Scamp in Grade 7, which means dad Kevin can run them both in the Champ classes.

The big dogs were doing well too, with high placings by Helen Strachan with Katie and Nicola Ward with Sky.  (We also have a correction to the news from the Beardie show,  Nicola got a 2nd place with Sky there too.)   Jan Guyan’s boxer Toby won the under 12’s agility handled by Jan’s granddaughter, Jordyn. Jan herself was in the placings with her collie, Bobby.

News in from Lisa Traverse who was at the Lochaber Obedience show :

Fran  (Murtaugh) Colin (Thain) Eleanor (Harrison), and myself were off to the show this weekend.  It rained a lot, but did dry out a bit on the Sunday.  It was a good weekend though and here are the results.

Saturday’s Prebeginners:

Lisa and Ozzy 6th, Max 10th

Eleanor & Misty 7th Dusty 8th

Sunday’s Prebeginners:

Eleanor & Misty 4th

Lisa and Ozzy 5th Max 9th

Sunday Beginners:

Fran and Diva 9th

Colin and Beauly 10th

Ged Smith was very happy again this weekend at the Beardie Agility show when Sky won her jumping class. She had to keep up with her sister who won last weekend.  Also delighted with this weekend’s results was Helen Strachan with Katie who had two Second places,  and Nicola Ward had a third place with her collie Sky.

Those of you who do flyball will know the little black poodles Cody and Sky.  Cody won out of grade 1 at the East Lothian Show,  and Sky had a second place. Well done handler Ged Smith. All that determination has paid off Cody!

Jan Guyan has been very busy in the winning stakes:

Toby (Bawdekyn Nice ' Dandy) her  ten year old boxer winning a Grade 6 Agility at the Clyde Valley show and seven rosettes . Toby again was awarded the Beau Jangles Trophy for the best ABC Senior dog in Class 5 Agility.

Bobby, (Mister Blue Eyed Boy)  winning Grade 6 Jumping and two 3rd places

Billy her younger boxer who gained a 5th in Grade 4 Agility and a 7th in jumping.

More news on the MacIntosh brothers Scamp and Guinness:

Guinness has now moved up to Grade 6 after winning at Ireland last weekend.

Not to be outdone, Scamp made it through to the final 10 in the Avon Dog of The Year competition with the final taking place at their show a couple of weekends ago and Scamp won!

Once again,  Storm and Nicola have been winning,  this time grade 5 jumping at the Prestwick Show on 7th June.  Not to be outdone,  wee Guinness and Kevin had a grade 5 win, and brother Scamp had to be content with a second place!

This month we have some winners again!  Helen Strachan and Katie (Happy go lucky Katie)  won two grade 4 jumpings at the Woodside Agility show.  In pouring rain,  Colin Thain and  Beauly won Pre-Beginners at Irvine Valley, also getting a 4th place in Beginners.  Also progressing up (or is that storming?) the agility ranks, wee Guinness and Kevin McIntosh have now made it to grade 5.

We held our AGM on Monday 20th April, and there have been a few changes to the committee.  Over the year,  we lost Dorothy Anderson and Anne Findlay, and Helen Strachan, Pauline Innes and Laura Innes also decided to step down prior to the AGM.  Our thanks to all for their work during their time on the committee.    Our new committee is in place, and they are Gail Robertson, Shona Webster, Angie Jeffries, Eileen McWilliam, Kirsty Sutherland and Arlene Deans.  Our four office bearers remain the same as last year:  President: Alison Robertson, Vice President:  Judith Owen,  Treasurer:  Nicola Ward, and Secretary:  Lesley Norrie.   If anyone has any suggestions about things they would like to do or ideas for club events,  please let one of us know.

At the Dundee spring agility show last weekend,  we had a couple of winners  - Nicola Ward with Storm (Averans Winter Storm) got 1st place in Grade 4 Agility and Kevin McIntosh’s wee one, Guinness, won out of Grade 3 at his first outdoor show.

With many people being away to shows over the next few months flyball is moving to Thursdays at 7pm.  Those who normally attend Nicola’s class at 7pm have the option of moving to Judith’s class at 7.45 pm (note change of time) or Alison’s later Wednesday class.  This takes effect from 9th April 2009.

Well done to Jan Guyan and Bobby for continuing their winning streak by winning Grade 6 Jumping at the Gleniffer Show.

Well dones are also due to those from the club who took part in the Spey Valley Match, ACTS – check the Spey Valley Blog for the results and pictures http://www.speyvalleydtc.blogspot.com/ .  ACTS members in all the first places!  Particular congratulations to Katie Webster with Mia – her little spaniel.

We held our first club event of the year, the Club Competition on 14th February.  Unfortunately the bad weather kept a lot of people away but we had a good turnout.
