News for 2006

Hope everyone enjoyed the Christmas Party – there were lots of camera on the go,  so please send in your photos! Anyone got any of the quickest down competition?  It was a great end to a good year and nice to see so many of us there, from our youngsters to our more mature doggy members.

Our last puppy class of the year received their certificates on Monday 11th December, and what a cute bunch they are too.  It’s been a while since we caught up with our youngest members,  so here’s some photos of them in action, and with their trainers,  Arlene Deans and Angie Jefferies .

Laura Innes  and Tyler (Redwood Trail Blazer) are off to Olympia for the Agility this weekend 18th December – good luck from all of us!

Still on the agility theme,  down at the Woodside Xmas show, the new partnership of Mr Pete and Miss Sky surpassed themselves by taking third place in the Pairs competition.  Understand that mums Judith and Nicola are still in shock!

For those of you who wanted a recipe for liver cake, there’s one on the new misc items page.  If there is anything you think might be of interest to club members (and our other readers) email the editor via the link on the page.

Once again,  we held our Good Citizen tests at Bronze, Silver and Gold Levels.  At least this year, it wasn’t bucketing rain for the road walk.  So who passed?  Check here

We had a very successful Flyball Training day with Alan Wood.  Alan reckons we have the makings of at least three teams, so we’ll have to be practicing.  Who’d have thought that quiet little Scamp the Spaniel would be such a star!  There was also a rumour that Holly the Collie was being kidnapped for the Dundee team – watch out Mum!

Would you believe our website is now a year old?  In our first year we have had over 2,400 visits, and our highest number of visitors was for October, reaching a peak of 316 callers.  If any club member has suggestions or items they would like to see on the site, please let our secretary know .

More competition news from the last show of the season held at Fair City’s premises at Dalcrue.

Alison Robertson with Cody (Forquecroft Morse’s Cody) won the Beginners Class, beating her dad Morse (Foxfold Delegate)  into 3rd place the same class.   Aliosn’s waited a long time for this, so it makes it an extra special celebration.  Making sure she was definitely out of Pre-Beginners,  Arelene Deans collected another red rosette with Libby, and also picked up 4th place with her in the Beginners Class.   Photos to follow this time!

On the way to the Weimeraner show on Sunday 1st October,  Arlene Deans was remarking that as Libby (Hip Hop Elsie) hadn’t been working all season, she didn’t think she’d get her ambition of getting out of Pre-Beginners this year.  Guess what?  They did getting -  First place in Pre-beginners – great stuff!

Ellen Herries’ report for Class B at the open show is now available for reading on the Show page.

New club year and that boy Pete (Getahead Mikki Plum) is off to a flying start by winning his Novice Class at Wigton Obedience Show.  His mum,  Judith Owen, is very happy with him.

Also very happy with her boy Otto (Shadowsquad Mr Tidy) is Sue Sentinella.  Sue had a great weekend at the East Kilbride and Kilmarnock shows,  coming second in Pre-Beginners on the Saturday and then going on for the red one on Sunday.  Well done Sue and Otto!

More news on Laura Innes  and Tyler,  they have qualified for the agility finals at Olympia, we’ll be cheering you on again!

Just time before the holidays to wish Laura Innes and  Murph good luck in the finals for the Scottish Dog of the Year at the Scottish Kennel Club Show on 26th August 2006, held at Ingliston, Edinburgh.

The show is now over, and our members picked up rosettes.  Details are on  the Open show page.  Thanks to everyone who came and helped, and who donated items to the tombola.  Who did the rain dance ?

The Innes sisters are at it again,  this time Laura Innes with Tyler (Redwood Trail Blazer) winning Novice Agility and Intermediate Agility at Avon Show on 3 June. This makes Tyler Laura’s second Senior Agility dog.  Laura has also made it to the Olympia semi-finals in Birmingham.

Pauline Innes and her golden girl Inca (Incas Gold) have won Starter’s jumping at the Fair City Show on 13 May.  Well done to the pair of you!

The club’s AGM was held on Monday 24th April.  If you want to know what happened  . . . . .?

The boy done good!  Much to the delight of his mum,  Judith Owen,  Getahead Mikki Plum or Pete as he is known to his many fans, has won out of Starters by winning the jumping class at the Scottish Border Collie Agility Show held at the Lomond Centre, Glenrothes on 23rd April.  Well done lad, we knew you could do it!

Flyball is on the move – new time is 9 pm on alternate Thurdays for 30 minutes (or so).  Starting this Thursday, 13th April.

The puppy class of January 2006 are making their debut on the Puppy Roll of Honour

If you went down to the woods lately ,  you might have got a big surprise!  Who was there but Alison Robertson with Morse, Codey and Tarn,  the GSDs . And why? The newest acting dynasty (with Alison of course) were there to film the chase scene in their debut movie about a holocaust victim who lives in Scotland.  The GSDs feature as German Guard dogs in scenes filmed at Bridge of Dun station and in Drumtochty Woods.  Rumour has it they’ve been nominated for a BAFTA .

Congratulations to  Nicola Ward and Mist (Dunnetbay Mist) for winning the Beginners Class at the Arbroath DTC Show on Sunday, 19th March.  First show of the season and first place!

The pictures and the report from the Club competition are on this page .  Stop by and  read Hal’s poem inspired by the event.

Arlene reports that she had a great day at Crufts, and really enjoyed her time at the world’s biggest dog show.  Also at Cruft’s with the Samoyeds were Jennifer McWilliam and her son Jonathan.  Mum and son both picked up some rosettes during their visit.  Well done to all of you.

Everyone at ACTS wishes Arlene Deans  and her lab Phoebe good luck for her trip to Crufts in March.  Arlene is one of 32 people taking part in the Special Kennel Club Pre-Beginners Stakes Final,  the first time this event has been held.  This competition has been introduced by the Kennel Club to encourage participation in  competitive obedience competitions.  Arlene qualified at Prestwick in June last year.

Congratulations to Jennifer McWilliam and Kella the Samoyed  for taking Best of Breed at the Bon-Accord Show on 28th January.
